Bulk Move of Galleries

I want to redo my hierarchy. Right now I have per-year galleries from some schools, and I want to group and flatten those galleries into Schools > School Name/Year > Galleries. Is there any better selection method for doing this. The group move tool seems to be the only place, but I have to one-by-one select the galleries since my only other option is 'all galleries'. There isn't an 'all galleries in a folder' option.

Thanks!

PS: I figured out how to flatten the galleries by deleting the sub-categories, so I have just 4 categories worth of galleries (each with about 50 galleries) that I want to move to sub-categories.

    AJA-2008-2009 I want to move to School>AJA-2008-2009

You still have to choose the galleries one-by-one. There's not really a better way. :cry

Thanks. Sort of figured that was going to be the answer. Being able to select graphically would be a huge win. Check box list or something like that....

I totally agree with you. I have thousands of galleries and I can't even use the bulk tools because I have so many. If I ever have to make a bulk change, I'm going to have to write a script and use the API vs trying to do it through the user interface.

I found that I have null subcategories left over in my Other category. Unfortunately, the bar for subcategories shows up still even for people visiting the site. Any idea of how to remove them? The don't exist in the add/delete subcategory UI list. You can see by checking out abowenphoto.com and selecting the 'other' category.

I'd email the helpdesk. That's something weird.

    Hi Andrew,

Looking at your site, I see 4 public galleries in your other category. And there are some unlisted ones, too. I don't see any problem with the public galleries. If you don't want them to show in the other category, you could make then unlisted or assign them to another category. You can reassign any gallery via its gallery settings and selecting a different category there.

Thanks for the reply. I went through the help desk and they suggested that I flatten the gallery display and then try to find which galleries are not shown in the hierarchical display. Turned out it was pretty easy since the three orphaned galleries had little squares with '?' in it as the thumbnail. They had directory paths of other/NULL/<gallery>. I was able to move them simply and the problem is now resolved.

    Thanks for the followup.

Still a graphical one-page select option to modify galleries would be most-helpful. How does one submit a request for new feature? Example when this would be helpful:

    1) When you are re-jiggering hierarchy
    2) When you want to change permissions or setup of all the galleries in a category. For example, I'm considering moving a set of galleries from visible but password protected to hidden and not PW-protected to enable a decent level of security, but also the ability to FB-share the images [seems FB share doesn't work if you have PW-protection on].

Having to add them 1 by 1 is so wildly painful.

    Thanks again!
