Help me find what this shot is missing...

Took this shot by laying my camara down inside a hollowed out tree stump and used remote flash to illuminate the inside...I think the shot is cool..but...just seems to be missing something...hoping my fellow dgrinners can help me out...

yup. inside of the tree stump is cool, but I think if it was darker that would help.

The flash has made the inside of the stump as bright as the sky above. You probably want the inside to be brighter than it really is so you can see some detail, but not as bright as it is here. Dial back the flash at least one whole stop, maybe more, and try again. It's a cool idea.

That's a lot better! But you also darkened the tree canopy and sky. Looks like you could easily select the rim of the stump (like with magnetic lasso) and only darken the stump. I'd be curious to see how that looks.

Your edit looks much better. Now, what if you rotate the image 90 degrees clockwise?

Crop just a bit from the left then make it a vertical. You darkened it to much in the tree portion.

Actually I never touched the trees...must be an optical illusion....

I rotated it 90 CW but then it look like a cave....
