Anyone using the Hoya R72 filter for IR photography? I'd like to use this on my D70 rather than going through an IR modification of the body. Any comments? I'm told the D2X is not a good IR camera.

The R72 filter is an excellent choice for the D70 as long as you have patience with post processing. I got some amazing photos with mine. I'll try to post them as soon as I can. Hope this was helpful.

I use the R72 filter on my Sony V3. The filter works wonderfully on it, but I haven't tried it on my 20D yet. One reason I keep the V3 is because of IR photography. You won't go wrong with the R72. Don't be discouraged by the red photo right out of the camera. Also, you will not be able to hand hold the shots due to exposure times.

Go for it and have fun,

you also won't be able to see out the viewfinder or autofocus with the filter on...

at least that was the case with my rebel!

That's right, I forgot about that detail. You would need to focus without the filter on, then attach the filter after you do the focus. After a few attempts, you will get the feel for exposure as well.

    IR is a blast,

I got mine a couple weeks ago. I've used it mostly with Nightshot mode on my 717, but did a couple LONG exposures in regular mode. The colors are freaky.
