Got the light I wanted

Hi, it has been a long time. A move to NC, change in camera brands and life in general has really limited my time for shooting and even lurking.... My daughter and I went on a photowalk on Saturday (part of the world-wide photowalk day, and a good excuse to force myself to shoot again), and we found this wonderful little bridge just into the woods that gave some amazing light:

3. And on the way out as we passed the gate house for the stadium

C&C always appreciated. All natural lighting, no reflectors, flashes, etc...

Good grief she's gorgeous! She looks like the teenaged Brooke Shields in that first one - have you got your locks and keys all ready? :D

Nice, nice, nice - particularly like how you've used the dof on the brick. What lenses are you using with the d700?

Thanks. The first two were shot using the 24-120 f/4 @ f/4 the one with the bricks is with the Sigma 85 f/1.4 @ f/3.2. ISO 400 across the board. Thankfully, she has no interest in boys (yet) and I'm fine with that. I was a little concerned that moving might make the boys seem new and less weird, but that hasn't happened. The first one will likely end up as her Bat Mitzvah photo for her signing board....

Nice shots. Maybe just a hair bright.
Like the light and the setups, she is cuter everytime you post shots of her. They grow up fast.

You know, I always forget that in some ways f4 on a FF is like 2.8 on a crop, at least in terms of how the DOF is handled. I suspect once I eventually have the $ to move to FF (do you have ANY idea how desperately I wanted to buy your 5dii at that price??? :cry) I'm going to like my lenses even more.... :D

Do you know desperately I wanted you to buy it? :D

Thanks, Zoomer. Funny thing is that I was pushing myself to push things a little brighter since I think I was tending to be about 1/3 under all the time... The pendulum swings.... Other than a couple of dots in the leaves, there isn't anything clipped.

Wow, awesome! These are some fantastic shots of a very beautiful young lady! I especially loved the last one (#2 I wasn't as big of a fan on, I think the pose is just less natural than the other two). Thanks for sharing - great work!

I think you got it just about perfect...just a smidge less. Of course just my opinion. To other people they may appear just right.

WOW, Andrew. Lovely photos of your beautiful daughter. I'm particularly fond of #1. I think that will be perfect for her signing board. When is the Bat Mitzvah?

Any fill in these at all?

Realized that after I posted. Had let my wife into my account and she reset watermarking across the board apparently.... Never again... :D

Andrew #1 is a perfect example of how dead center compo can really work for you at times. The viewer is drawn into those amazing eyes so full of character and you really captured that very well....
She is a beautiful young lady and you captured her essence well in these....and YES....you found that glorious light!

Thanks. You will notice, however, that the eyes and the railing on dead on the 1/3 lines top to bottom.

A quick pointer.....anytime a female rests her head on hands finger etc get her to just barely touch the hand. If you rest the weight of the head on the fingers, head it tends to schunch up the area.
