Not sure where to post this so I'll try here.

I am trying to post some photos on other Facebook Page's Walls. When doing so I'm using the direct photo link smugmug provides and putting it in the Link field on Facebook. When I do this when you click the link on Facebook it opens on a screen with a white background and just the one photo. Also fo some reason no Thumbnail of the photo ever appears in the post.

Is there anyway to post on someone else's wall similar to how the photos appear on my own wall? When I click on the given link on my wall it opens the one photo within the gallery and then if you close out the one photo it puts you back into the gallery.

I'm looking for something exactly like J Reir Photography found here https://www.facebook.com/#!/UPtravel

    Hi Aaron,

    It sounds like you are grabbing a direct image link which would not allow folks to go back to your site when adding it to Facebook.

    To get the image thumbnail to appear on a Facebook wall, what you would want to do is get the entire gallery link from your site and have that posted on SmugMug.

    For example, open up the photo you would like to have displayed on Facebook in your SmugMug gallery. From there, copy&paste the link into Facebook and you should get the image from that gallery along with the description from the gallery or from your metadata that is added to the Settings Tab of your Control Panel.

    If you have any other trouble with this send some details to our heroes and we'll give it a good look for you. thumb.gif

    Kevin thanks for the info that seems to be the link I needed. After further review it seems to work on some pages but not others. On some pages the thumbnail doesn't show up and the link that goes directly to the photo shows up as www.aaroncjors.com but when clicked it will take you directly to the photo.


    I would say that this might have to do with the particulat Facebook page but it seems that others on the same page are able to post with the thumbnails. Also when I initially post the link the thumbnail box appears where I have to scroll through to choose the right image.

    Aaron,
    The link you include is for photos directly uploaded to Facebook. That doesn't get you any visitors back to your galleries or site. If that's what you want, you could use our Publish to Facebook feature which is still in testing:

    If you want to have people click through to your gallery to see the photo large, you would need to either use the 'be social' feature or share a gallery or lightbox link from the share button > get a link > gallery links tab.

    Sebastian I would prefer that people click through to my gallery. With that said using the "be social" feature I am able to only post to my personal Facebook Aaron C. Jors or my photography page Aaron C. Jors Photogrphy but not to other pages.

    When I try the lightbox link I am able to post on other pages and have it link back to my gallery but the problem is there is no thumbnail of the image in the post. Without the thumbnail the post is pointless.

    What I want to do is post on other pages but have the post show exactly how it shows on my page Aaron C. Jors Photography when I use the Be Social feature. Like here (https://www.facebook.com/UPtravel#!/pages/Aaron-C-Jors-Photography/115546918532002)

    Did you maybe add your page after using the be social feature? You may have to remove the SmugMug app from your Facebook apps and also remove Facebook from your SmugMug account. You can do the latter in the control panel > settings tab > social settings > view social accounts (in the section heading). Once completely removed, use be social again and after connecting your Facebook, you should be able to post to a page in your Facebook account as well.

    Pasting in a gallery or lightbox link shows you the thumbnails to choose from. If you don't see that option coming up, try a different browser. It doesn't work if you're in Opera, for example.

    Sebastion I've tried what you suggested above but the thumbnail still does not appear in the final post. I get the option to choose the thumbnail in Facebook but it simply does not show up once I hit post. I've gotten it to work before with the Thumbnail but only once. Below are two example the first is how I want it to appear which I have been able to do once and the second is how it appears 99% of the time. These are both example from the same Facebook page "Michigan's Upper Peninsual" so it can't be the Facebook page itself.

    Could you give me a link to the gallery where you try to link to? I tried this myself and it worked OK both by grabbing the link from address bar while in lightbox view and also from "Get a link"

    For what it's worth I just did a test and was able to get it to post correctly using the first link. I did the exact same thing last night and it did not work, it showed up how the second image above looks. Not sure why it works at times and not at other? I appreciate your help.

    Seems to work for me also. Maybe there was some temporary problem in communication between Facebook and Smugmug. I don't think we have changed anything related to this in a while on out side.

    Miika I have tried this probably 3-4 other times on different days and have still ended with the result in the second picture. I give a try and see how things go moving forward.
