What body would be best with the MPE65mm?
(of course some cheaper - crop sensor (except 7D))

i still use my 450d with mpe , for tiny subjects the crop factor does make a difference over full frame 5d .

    try get a 550 d

how much difference would a cropped sensor make vs a Full frame for macro DoF? Is it 1.6 times more DoF (if 1.6 is the crop factor?) Does 1.6 times DoF really make that big a difference for macros, so as to buy a new body? I have no idea, just curious, but I would hate to spend $$$ for buying a cropped sensor body just for the MP-E!! Usually its the other way round right, cropped sensor body owners plan to buy full frame bodies!!

The real answer to this is no difference in DOF at all if you shoot to the same diffraction level. In macro shooting yes a FF sensor gives lower DOF but it also gives lower lower diffraction so if you shoot to the same diffraction level as a 1.6 crop camera you get the same DOF. This equates to shooting approx 1 stop smaller aperture (higher F-number) than you would if you were using a 1.6 crop camera

I could not resist when I found a used MT-24EX flash at very low price :D
I think it will be great in combination with new 600D and MP-E65 :ivarclap.gif

The real answer to this is no difference in DOF at all if you shoot to the same diffraction level. I

I'm a macro nut and I have a 7D and MKII, and after reading this thread I got curious as to which would have more DOF without diffraction. So, I googled DOF calculators.

    http://www.dofmaster.com/dofjs.html

This DOF calculator suggests that the 5D MKII has more DOF at its DLA than the 7D at its DLA (or any 18MP 1.6x crop camera.)
I don't think it converts over as simply since pixel size impacts diffraction. If the calculator is right that means that cameras with pixel size like the MKII can have a wider DOF with no diffraction than the pixel packed 7D and D600, and there is actually a more clear advantage to getting a camera with a larger pixel size on its sensor.

Makes me wanna get a 5D and test it at its DLA of F13 :)

You're absolutely right! It is very difficult to diffuse MT-24EX flash light. Somehow I did it and here are the results :)

Nice shots! I'm really struggling to learn to effectively use my MPE65 on my 1DMKIV (1.3x crop sensor) and ring light. So much to learn. Unfortunately, no one in my area seems interested in Macro so I am on my own for figuring it all out. Still - have had lots of good suggestions here which are helping. Enjoy the new toys!
