Looks like I'm not the only one with problems lately... so what's going on with SM?

I UL'd a 12k joke JPG that is 320x225 on my end, yet I can only display it as at 150x113. What gives?
Did you enable originals in that gallery? If you don't enable display of originals, Smugmug can only display the pre-made sizes so you will get the pre-made size that is smaller than your original. Since your image isn't big enough for even a Small version, the largest pre-made size it has is the large thumb.

I don't know about your second question.

OK John... That sorta makes sense, but not really. I would see even small showing the full sized image, even if the image to be displayed was smaller than "small", if you spec'd "S" in the URL. (this makes more sense, IMPO) But I rarely have to put up JPGs this small, so...

No, "O" is not enabled in that album. Is how you explained it above, how the coding works currently?

So there are 2 sizes of thumb-nail images? What are they please?
And what is the smallest image for "S" to be displayed?

    Thanks.

    RE: #2, I'll be patient...
I'm not saying Smugmug's rules about what to display make sense as lots of people are confused by this, but they are what they are. If the image isn't big enough for the -S size, you get the large thumbnail size. They take you literally when you say you don't want to display the original, even if you have enabled up to Large and your original is smaller than the max size you specified.

You can see all the image sizes here.

Regarding issue #1, I believe this is the image in question:

    link redacted

Since this image is smaller than our Small display size (400 px wide), we'll show the next largest size, which is the large thumbnail size (150px wide). If you upload an image at least 400px wide, you'll be able to see the Small display copy instead of the large thumbnail image.

For issue #2, the size of the photo that's displayed is determined by your browser opening, screen resolution, etc. The reason the display image appears different in the two galleries you linked to is because you have a three line gallery description in the Cat gallery. This makes less screen "real estate" available, so depending on the size of your monitor/browser window, etc, we may only be able to show a smaller display copy by default. We always try to show the largest image possible without any scrolling required, so the larger the gallery description, the less screen real estate, and the smaller display image we can show. So, this is the normal gallery behavior. If you were to remove the gallery description from the Cats gallery (or add a three line gallery description to your Camera gallery), you'd notice that the display images are the same size.

OH, and since I have a Power acct, does the Pro acct give the ability to lock in the r-pane image size where the Power acct doesn't? (unable to find anything to this effect, so far)
You don't seem to understand how the Smugmug gallery view works. It examines the space available on the screen and selects the largest pre-made size that will fit. If your customizations are the same on every gallery and the browser window size is the same, then you will get the same image size in every gallery. If you change your customizations and thus change the amount of screen space available for the main image, then the main image size may vary to fit. If SM didn't do that, then scrolling might be required to see the main image.

Std/Power/Pro are no different in this regard. It is within your control to have them all the same if you don't change the space available for the main image. But, they will all fit to the browser window size whatever the viewer has that set to. Screen size does not matter - it's browser window size that matters. Just change your own browser window size and you will see the main image adapt to the space available. This is the way it is designed.

John... I've played with my side screen sizes a bit more and now understand how this works. But my "consistency" statement still stands. All albums should look the same, if the settings are consistent, no matter what screen size or the description TXT @ the top.

Do you know if there is there anything in the works that allows the owner of said site to set the default size of the image in the r-pane? This would allow all final albums to be visually the same when stretched.
Smugmug sizes the main image to fit - period. That viewing style has no way to lock it to a specific size. If you vary the amount of stuff you have in the gallery description and change the amount of screen space available to the main image from gallery to gallery, the algorithm may choose a different display size in some galleries to avoid scrolling. That is their design intent. Please don't argue with me about it as I'm just telling you how it works and I don't work for Smugmug. I'm not aware of anything in the works that would change that behavior, but SM doesn't generally tell us what they are working on.
