Different beta uploader bug

Attempting to upload files that are somewhat large returns 'Sorry can only upload JPGs or GIFs' or the like.

The file was a 17Mb JPEG (don't ask...)

Adjusting a quality parameter such that it was 10Mb worked fine and seemd to begin uploading fine.

I have no problem with not accepting stupidly large JPGs, but I believe the error message is incorrect.

Can anyone replicate this?

Not exactly urgent, but something to bear in mind :):

Luke

PS. The Beta uploader seems to be working a lot better now than it has been recently... :):

    Hi Luke,

The upload limit is actually 16 MB (for pro accounts) so it should have been rejected but with a better error message. Thanks.

We had a problem with the beta uploader after the last push of features but it should be fine now.

    Thanks,
    Chris

That's interesting, I've been fighting the same thing this evening - 18MB file that I want to get printed in some large sizes. I would have sworn there was no limit on the upload size.

In anycase, I'll reduce the size of my file and try again.

    edit - Uploading fine now.

there's no limit on aggregate total of storage with smugmug, but there are limits on individual file sizes

Thanks Andy, I had missed that.
Using "save for web" and reducing the quality from 100% to 85% reduced the file size from 18MB to 12MB without making any noticable difference to the quality.

I'd made a 16 x 20 inch collage of the ladies from my wife's gym at last weekends breast cancer walk and want to make a nice framed picture for their wall.

you miight try using "save as" and choosing level 10 or so, that should do it to. i don't like "save for web"
