Opera Back stage

Got a chance to shoot at a chinese opera back stage. Kind of low budget show put up mainly for the old folks community. Its a dying trade and these artistes are mostly elders working passionately with little money. Stage set up were deprived of any aircon but simply using incandescent bulb and fan. However, its a blessing for photography as it gives a special atmosphere. My attempt is to capture their portraiture in their natural working environment.

C&C most welcome.

Fantastic shots. Great composition, and you used the bare/harsh lights beautifully. I'm not sure what I think of the mirror shot (color face, B&W everything else). It's a bit forced, but still striking.

Great thing to capture! I particularly like #1, and you used the light-reflection of the mirror in #3 wonderfully well. I'm also not 100% sure about the selective colour in four, although it does work better than a lot of selective colour shots (and I can see why you chose it).

    Great set! thumb.gif

oh my gosh--Number 3 is an awesome shot!
Love the reflection in the mirror w/that creepy lighting, but what makes it for me is the action in the background, the barely seen faces w/ makeup.
    bowing down now.

love the voyeuristic feel on #1 and #3 is special. Very nice.
I really like #4 as well, except for the SC. Personal preference. I wonder what a de-saturated view of the monochrome would look like. Nonetheless, it's a wonderful composition.
