Deleting Joker.com to use Godaddy.com

I should have never signed up with Joker.com. Every single year I have trouble renewing because their process is so unreasonably complex. It's like going to a foreign page every time I have to go in there and do anything...not that I do that very often either. Every year I say I'm going to switch domain providers and that time has come now. I'm done with them...joker is a joke IMO.

Anyway, I want to use godaddy.com after talking to a friend about their experience with them. I have no idea what I need to do to get my domain over to godaddy from joker quickly. Have any of you completed this process and can you offer me advice or instruction on how to do this somewhat painlessly? Once I get it over to godaddy, I'm sure I'll need some help with any settings to direct it through smug mug. I vaguely remembering a super smug mug support guru doing that for me when I originally signed up.

Thank you in advance for your help as always.

    Kris,

Contact GoDaddy. They have folks that can walk you through the transfer process. Its actually pretty easy to do but it takes time. We can help you set the domain up at GoDaddy once its moved over.

Here is the GoDaddy page for transferring the domain over. http://www.godaddy.com/domains/domain-transfer.aspx?ci=8992

When you say "transfer", does that mean I wont have to go through them anymore at all? I had seen something that made it look like it would still go through them to godaddy. I want to drop joker completely. Thanks for your always quick responses too. Support here is always so awesome. :-D

    kris10,

We can definitely help you with your transfer. A transfer means that you'll be moving the domain registration from the current registrar to Go Daddy. You'll then manage your domain information from your Go Daddy account. You can see the walk-through for how a transfer works here: http://x.co/aO7O

If you get stuck or have any questions, we have 24/7 support on hand to assist you by phone or email: http://x.co/WeHelp

Just give us a shout if you need us!

I just went through this painful process. Transferring a domain is probably more convoluted than getting a kidney transfer. It's not a complicated process, but number of hoops you'll jump through will make you feel like you're asking for something out of a Swiss bank vault.

You'll have to wait a certain number of days because NO REGISTRAR wants to transfer a domain. They'll give you all sorts of deals and excuses to stay and you'll have to read fine print on emails a couple of different times and different ways as they try to trick you into staying. Once you're finally past all this garbage, you'll have to wait over a week because most registrars won't manually accept a transfer, even though they all can do it.

Good luck with the process. I've learned to never sign up for a domain with someone if you don't plan to be with them for life. It's that much of a pain.

And this is the kind of thing that makes me a GoDaddy customer for life. I have dealt with literally hundreds of domain hosts setting up thousands of domains for customers in the last 5 years. NO other domain host steps up to the plate like GoDaddy. iloveyou.gif

I must admit, godaddy's support is pretty good. When the authentication codes wouldn't work on their system, it was quickly tested and then escalated to priority support. Even though it was some sort of system glitch, they managed to get it sorted for me.

I didn't even get a notice that I had replies until today. Odd but all good. I broke down and called Go Daddy today after going to joker.com and seeing that I had to call a number in Switzerland! They were super quick with everything and explained to me cost breakdown and everything. I signed for two years with them and added the identity protection thing and it still ended up being less than I could have expected it to be. So far, they have sent me what I need to get my domain name under them and now I sit and wait for joker to send me the authorization code. I may need someone to help me set up the stuff that someone here set up for me when I signed with Joker if thats possible. I'll let you guys know when I get to that point. I've been off line for a week now so aim hoping Joker will hurry up. There is nothing they can do to convince me to stay. I'm totally impressed with Go Daddy just from my first interaction with them. Now off to check out some of their other services. They seem to offer a lot of stuff. Thanks everyone! I am so grateful to have a bunch of helpful folks here to come to when I'm in a bind. :-)

    kris10,

I know this is a couple days later, but I wanted to add to this conversation. If you continue to have difficulties obtaining your authorization code, our Transfer Concierge team might be able to assist you with that. You can email them at concierge[at]secureserver.net and let them know the trouble you're having. They specialize in all things transfer related. Feel free to shoot them an email directly if you need some extra assistance.

Thanks CJ! I was able to get on my website this morning so Im assuming the code I had to email them again to send me as they seemed to he taking their time must have worked. I thought I'd have to get help on DNS settings but I guess all of that came along with the domain name. So far, Im super pleased with Go Daddy! Thanks again for your advice and thanks to the rest of you too for all of your help! I really appreciate it. :-)
