Ok I shoot night football game and this time of the year the lighting can be real spotty, so last Saturday I had my first go at using flash, I still need to work at it but for a first try I am happy. I can see the players eyes. :D:D

Here is a shot with out flash and notice the QB face.

Fell Free to C&C I am always willing to accept and grow.

I just looked at the info and it said the flash did not fire, But I know it did. I was using the rig with the flash upside down on my Mono-pod

That is a good first run at it. Flash takes some getting used to.

I think you will get better results if you go with a ISO of 800 and a f/4 or 5. I don't think you should be using f/2.8 with flash.

You need to take test shots without the flash and have the shot not completely black but close to black. Then you will reduce your noise even more and the flash will freeze action better.

    Just my .02 worth.

I agree with the other poster - your exposure is too close to ambient so the flash doesn't freeze the motion. The next comment is - you need to frame a lot tighter. If you're using a 200mm lens, do the following:
    1) put the zoom at 200mm
    2) Shoot the entire half and NEVER zoom out. I'm serious.

Think how good that second shot could be if the subject were actually filling the frame? Then it's not just seeing the whites of his eyes, you can see his entire expression:

Thanks for the advice I will defiantly put it to use. This time I was not able to take the time to get every thing setup but I will this Saturday. John I agree with framing tighter, I have been working on it.
