How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

Thanks Ben. I will be posting some real lion images fairly soon but they will be a tad younger.

Thanks, the Vietnam Veterans' memorial Wall is fixed in place in DC. There is a half size replica that moves around the country staying a week at each site. This was started by a a Vietnam vet from California who felt that the experience of the Wall should be shared by folks who were unable to travel to DC.

Thanks for the kind words but as for them being the real thing I didn't check their 214s or DOD records so we will just have to consider them to be "alleged veterans". :ivar

When the various traveling walls come to our neck of the woods, our club is typically asked to provide some historic military vehicles to add to the display. I've always wanted to shoot some images of the vets (alleged vets), but just haven't convinced myself it's appropriate as a non-vet to capture those emotional moments.

So I admire your ability to capture and present these images....

Thanks and I wouldn't hesitate to take those pictures. After I did my first shoot of our local ceremonies and shared my captures a number of vets requested that I return the next year and do it again. A purpose of the Wall is to unify us.

    I have seen this wall
Although it is a replica, the emotional impact was there when I touched the names of some of the guys I knew! Thanks for posting!

I've seen the Wall in DC and the travelling wall and the impact of both is about the same. Its the names on the wall and not the size of the wall that has impact.

You are right, let me include it; God Bless America first and after that, the rest of the world.

To be honest with you I don't think we are doing too well and the rest of the world either.
But you know what, people get what they wish for, including us.

I do not polarize myself but feel free to ask God to Bless my Flag and my Country ANY TIME I WANT.
    Just my thoughts.

    Y.

John 3:17-18 But if anyone has the world's goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God's love abide in him? Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.

"A man can be a Christian or a patriot, but he can't legally be a Christian and a patriot -- except in the usual way: one of the two with the mouth, the other with the heart." Mark Twain

Back to photography. Having spent two years in Vietnam, having run veterans' outreach centers for a number of years, and as a father having spent a year in a purgatory of fear and suspense as his son served a year in Iraq the veteran experience has a deep and special meaning to me which I try to convey in my captures of veterans.

That experience is a human experience that transcends those automaton "patriotic"
responses we too often recite by rote. When I look at my subject's faces I see men reflecting back on their experiences and losses and struggling with emotions.
