I was lucky enough to get media credentials for this event. The event was last held 4 years ago, and this is the first time it has been held on the west coast. There were factory drivers from the past as well as the present. They had very rare wonderful examples of historic Porsche race cars from the early 60's to about 2000 or so. The racing was surprisingly good and competitive, and they only had one contact incident. That's real good because some of these cars are worth more than a Malibu beach estate.

Here is the first image that spoke to me. C&C welcome especially from the motor sports shooters.

I hear it was quite the event. Lots of different cars from the 60's, 70's and many other years. I was heading down Hwy 1 and saw literally hundreds of Porsches heading North. It was an amazing display of automobiles.

As far as the picture goes, I like that you've got three different cars in the photo though I'm not so crazy about the smoke.

I ain't never renting a 400 mm 2.8L again without the Sherpa option. It is huge! 15 LBS and awkward to carry. That plus the other 38 LBS of gear wore me out. I also struggled with correct technique to get really sharp images.

I will look forward to trying a 300 mm 2.8L and a 1.4 extender MK III some day.

Anytime one ventures into unfamiliar territory you need to accept a learning curve.

I look forward to shooting more motor sports.

After the "drama" with getting the lens, I truly hope you enjoyed the event. Really like #1 and I love the different perspective of #3 (if it were mine, I might look at cropping some from the left to draw the focus even more to the red car?).
That indeed is a LOT of gear/weight to lug around.
My opinion does not necessarily make it true. What you do with my opinion is entirely up to you.
