The comments are funny. I'm definitely getting one for no particularly good reason other than I want to play with it and be an early adopter of what could turn out to be a really powerful technology. It also may have no long-term impact on art photography, I don't know. But the negative reactions and misinformation about the camera and the technology are funny. I can totally understand thinking the camera is not worth spending money on, that they tech is a gimmick, I could see that. But somehow this camera seems to upset people.

There's a lot of cons in that review, but none of them really surprise me. This, for me, is a total novelty toy purchase. I never expected it to be truly useful at this first iteration. But I want it. That's enough, right?
I also think it's difficult to really compare it against anything. Once it's been out and has some use, I would be interested in hearing what others have to say. The only two cons I saw were the tiny screen and limited resolution. For what it is, I don't see that as a big deal.

Looks fun.
I've played with some samples from PetaPixel's posts, it pretty fun. I'd be willing to rent one to try it out, hopefully borrowlenses.com will rent some out in the future. Quick question, how does one share their images after they take (how do i say?) a light field image?
Hah. I got mine days ago, it sat on my desk. I did use it, but was sort of non-plussed. I shipped it off to SM Marketing to giveaway (FB, Twitter, G+, not sure).
I think it's really cool technology, and can't wait till it's built in to some serious cameras

Images are very small.
Angle of view for the screen is very narrow.
The square aspect and need to have depth in the shot is very limiting.
No processing options available in the software (except for rotate).
The lens cap is magnetic and comes off in my jacket pocket too easily.
Its use is definitely limited to novelty status at this point.
David, will you be able to embed a photo(s) here? Is the software to create those included with the kit?
I think I can embed but you'd have to click through to their site to play with it. That's my understanding, at least. The software is available via download (not included in the box). Here's a screenshot of it (not much to it):
Better? I finally got my Skitch woes worked out, I think. I've become so dependent on it, especially since it's one of the very few ways of posting images here at work that the firewall doesn't see.

I guess for me, it's an opportunity to try something different and you're right. It may just be a novelty item. And that's cool.

I think so.

Yah, I don't have super high expectations, but I am looking forward to it and want to be a Lytro owner.

Is this really the user manual for the camera?

Yes, it is.
I got mine today, and took a picture, but can't upload from work, due to firewall. It's fun, though!

The extra .jpg is an evernote thing. My Skitch account got b0rked when I upgraded, so my normal method of sharing isn't working. Frustrated.

I can't do that from work, due to firewall. I'll definitely be posting those here.

I just noticed that you had gotten a Lytro camera. Do you still have it?
If so, do you still like it and use it?
What, if anything, has made you regret getting it? (other than size of picture image...I know it's only 1.2MP)
Have you printed off a picture from it?
I'm sure I'll have more questions later, but I wanted to see if you still had it.
If you got rid of it...why?
