Zebra is a winner...by far!
Love the tiger, too.
And No. 3 Cat.
Excellent stuff.

I might have known you'd show up out of the blue like a clap of thunder. And you're firing lightning bolts from a Nikon. Next thing I know, you'll be showing me roses and pansies.
Welcome back, pard. I'm glad to see you still have it in you. Good work.

I always wanted to lie naked on a bearskin rug in front of a fireplace. Cracker Barrel didn't take kindly to it.

Thanks Tom,
I had to shoot some "test" shots with this strange, backward Nikon stuff
I'm headed out West/NW and wanted to make sure I knew where the shutter button was
Excellent choice on the new gear, Randy! Glad to see you've finally come around to the Nikon side. I've missed your work so I'm glad to see it. Will look forward to your NM shots.
Cheers,
Lauren

Thanks for the dark side welcome Lauren, and the nice comments!
haha..I know you are not a man prone to idle thoughts..but what are your initial thoughts on the new system?
Well Daniel,
Initial thoughts: (With very limited use so far) ---> Man, this stuff is expensive
D3s
CONS
Very strange ergonomically, coming from Canon. Everything, and I do mean everything, is backward.
I can't change ISO with one hand (what's up with that?)
Moving the focus point seems slower, more laborious than the Canon's (I always use/used the joystick)
Heavier feel than even my Canon 1dMkIII
Menu system seems clunky, not user friendly (remember, this is new to me)
The playback button seems WAY out of place. I would like it to be next to the zoom button.
PROS
The high ISO is wonderful on this body
The focusing seems very good (with very limited use/testing so far)
I may be able to get used to all the external switches, which should be a good thing
The viewfinder appears better than my Canon's - I can look at the display data easier/faster
Auto ISO is more useful than my Canon's because you can set the upper ISO and slowest shutter speed. (The 1DIV does this also, but I don't have one of these)
14-24 f/2.8
CONS
Can't use filters (scary, that expensive bulbous lens just hanging out there, un-protected)
PROS
Supposed to be the best wide angle zoom available - I haven't even shot with it yet
24-70 f/2.8
CONS
No IS, but then again, neither is Canon's
PROS
Sharp
70-200 f/2.8 VerII
CONS
Don't know of any yet
PROS
Definitely very sharp
TC 2X
CONS
None so far
PROS
70-200 still very sharp with this teleconverter attached
Have really enjoyed these and more so your Thoughts
on your New Gear. I was curious as to the differences
coming from the Top Canon Gear to the Top Nikon.
I'll be anxious to see and hear your thoughts after your
first big Adventure.
It's starting to Cool Down some, maybe a Visit to the StockYards
and around Cowtown is Called for before you head out??

Hey Craig,
I'll let you know more of my "Nikon" thoughts when I get back from my West/NW trip that's coming up. I should give the gear a good workout on the trip.
WOW ... that new camera of yours is awesome ... but the photographer is good also
ISO seems to be wonderful. New gear ... Nikon no less. I've always wondered if I made a mistake going Canon instead of Nikon.
Your shots turned out great. The ISO in #4 -- I can only dream of being able to use a camera that can handle something like that. Looks like that new 70-200 is a great lens. Sharp indeed.
I know a home for some of your Canon gear if you ever are selling it
Have fun in the West/NW .. beautiful county that's for sure.

Hey Mary,
After 32 years of shooting Canon, I just thought it would be fun to try something different
When I get back from the trip, I'll be posting all my Canon gear for sale!
