    Brian,
    Thank you VERY MUCH for the link and all the info on it!!bowdown.gif

    My old SLR was a Nikon FG and the problem was I couldn't afford to play with it at the time, due to the cost involved with processing.. The digital age is so much easier because you can see what you get for free..

    So, for decades I just did my best with point and shoots, and while I did get some really cool macro shots, I was severely limited by the equipment..
    This year I went on vacation with sideshow (member here) and his worst shots were better than my best (not that he had bad shots rolleyes1.gif) But my point and shoot samsung 10mp really limited the quality of the shots, the depth of field, color, etc..
    So, I finally said I'd had enough, and I ponied up for a barely used D3100 body and a Sigma 18-200.. I stopped at a local camera shop for some accessories and asked about a macro lense, and it just happened to be the day that they had gotten in their first Nikon macro 40mm... I snapped it up, and have been having a blast since!!wings.gif

    So, my plan is to find a nice ring flash to help with lighting, and keep on doing what I enjoy..

    I think I enjoy the macro stuff for the magnification that comes with it, and I'm always nervous about taking photos of people because they may not want their photo taken.. A bug, flower, etc. doesn't care if I click away, so I feel more confident doing so..thumb.gif

    Thanks again, and you may be getting some questions from me on clarification on some subjects..

    Welcome to the Wonderfull world of macro :(

    Good shot, focus good. That stinger looks quite Sharp! Lol

    Don't get a ringflash, they are too hard to diffuse, look for a standard flashgun and off camera cord. Then make a diffuser for it.

    Hi Phil, would this also apply to the Canon Macro Twin Lite?

    i know
    but DIY diffusers are much better
    they cost nearly nothing and , you control the amount of diffusing

    here mine

    in that case .....
    i read that you can also use gary fong popup-diffusers
    but since they are 40 $ a piece here , i prefer DIY

    material ;
    black cardboard
    1/4 " think PU-foam , in wich my GPS once was packed
    some paper towel
    drawing paper
    tape and glue to make it a whole

    the opening on the back is large enough to remove
    yet small enough to not fall of

    advantage of DIY is ;
    you can add layers of paper[ and other material ] to get the amount of diffusion you want without worrying to damage anything
