Package pricing with no other products

I have read through some other forum posts with roughly the same question but I can't believe it's really the case so I wanted to double check. I know about eliminating products by setting it to 0.00

I want to have a gallery that only allows the customer to purchase my packages. I do NOT want them to be able to purchase anything else. If the items in the package have to be available, that defeats the entire, or most of the, purpose of having a package pricing. The idea here is to charge more for the initial package then, after they have made the initial purchase, allow them to buy items a-la-carte. I know this (a-la-carte) has to be in a separate gallery. (not a great solution but the only one available at this time.

Please help me out here. I must be missing something.
thanks, Larny

    Larry,

Package pricing is separate from a la carte pricing. If you don't want to offer individual products, just set all products to 0.00 in the set prices tool.

If you have further questions, include a link to a gallery in question along with specific details.

    Hi Rain,

I posted this reply to a much older thread on this topic so reposting to this newer one as I need to know if what I am experiencing is the intended experience or not.

I appreciate the reply on here as I am looking to offer only package sets, but the reply of disable all other pricing and all they will see are packages isn't correct.

I have set pricing for all items to 0.00 from both labs in my pricing.

I have created three test packages

I go to the gallery, click on "buy" and I see

    Buy...This Photo
    Photos in this gallery
    Photo Package

I think most people will click This photo or Photos in this gallery

If they do that they get a page with:

"Sorry, this photo has no products available for purchase"

    or

"the are not photos for sale in that gallery"

only if they click on Photo Package will they get to see the packages to choose.

From a marketing and sales engagement perspective this is terrible. You want your customers to click to buy, in this scenario 2 out of 3 choices tell your prospective customers that there is nothing to buy here.

Am I mistaken on how this is setup?

    Bill,

Package and individual buy options are separated. To buy a package, your customers need to use the package option. If you'd like to suggest a change or improvement to this, you can add your suggestion to our feedback page:

Lame. The SmugMug system should be smart enough to note that all individual prices are $0.00 and omit the option to buy individual items. Easy as pi. Should have been a day-1 feature, not something we have to request. Good luck submitting something to the UserVoice request forum. A request like this would be buried in the 500+ other requests. But, as I said, it's not really a request we should have to make.

    HI Sebastian -

I understand that - what doesn't happen but should though is that if all prices are set to 0 then remove the link as there is not a product for sale.

    Best,

    Bill

Did you look at John's suggestion? With that advanced customization code you should be able to hide the options you don't want shown in the buy button. Note that this doesn't replace the need to set the individual products that you don't want to sell to 0.00 as the customization code might not be in effect on all pages at all times.
