My wife was surprised when I came home with a shot of a phone booth still in operation as well. Sort of caught me off guard and there were people at it so I figured it was still working.
The lighting. Ah.... interesting. Just behind the ATM neon sign inside the doorjamb was a 8x10 inch or so halogen light pointing to the atm machine and the phone. I noticed the edge of the light pattern stopped at the edge of the building behind the guy on the phone. And the sodium-vapor lights on the street seemed to stop at that same point casting a yellow hue on the front of the building, but not the caller. With a little moving around, I was able to get both to line up fairly well. No flash used, tripod used and very little post done to this one. Heck, the WB stayed on AUTO for this shot too and no adjustment was done. It just seemed to 'work' with that halogen light doing everything for me.
