Mobile Device Home Page

The vast majority of my visitors are using IE on a PC. However, I'm getting enough mobile device accesses that I need to be sure my site looks good on a phone or iPad as well. I took a look at my home page using the Android browser and it was pretty bad. It consisted of a generic Smugmug banner and a list of categories in alphabetical order. Not at all what I want.

Can anyone point me to a reference on mobile Smugmug? I need to do some research before I figure out how to fix it.

You can specify in your control panel as to whether or not to allow the use of our mobile site. If you disable it then the visitor will get the normal site in their mobile browser. It's in your settings tab, control panel.

Thanks Andy. Is there any customization possible for the mobile site? I'm going to guess than the non-mobile site may not render well on a mobile device.

EDIT: I just took at look at the non-mobile site on my phone. It look pretty good but it's tough to navigate :(

I picked "view as a mobile site" on iphone and the cookie you added won't let me see my regular site.

Also where's the main menu? I was trying to get to the keyword list.

I see the full site selection but where is the main menu that had keywords and other picks on it?

Also the titles of passworded gallery sub-cats show although none of the albums.
PW'ed galleries should be hidden logged out.

So does SM acknowledge a demand for customization on the mobile side? headscratch.gif

Not asking etas or anything like that, but just wanted to know if you guys also see the demand. thumb.gif

Now, a fairly elegant solution to the OP's issue is to use a javascript mobile device detection script that reroutes to a mobile version of your site via mowser.com. Here's a link to some javascript I found:

and here's a link to your site via mowser:

Sure we'd love to offer it - but we have a ton more to do before that, Samir. Thanks.

Holy Crap!! I just looked at my site on a mobile and it looks like crap!

With more and more users using mobile devices this should be straightened out.
What do you mean? Your site plays perfectly in our mobile site. If you view the full site, it shows up fine as well. Going to galleries is a chore/trick as you use a complicated drop-down menu system. But the galleries display just fine.

What do you mean by "crap"? Specifics would help us to help you :D

in another post someone posted looking at my site via mowser.com. I did and it looked like crap.
I then when on my phone and looked at my site, picked full and it looked fine.

That is why I deleted my post..

I can't imagine 'mowser.com' being anything like the real experience on an iPhone.

That's a system which takes a 'regular' site and turns it into a 'mobile' site. This was important when you didn't have fully featured browsers on mobile devices like there are today.

In fact, I think a big part of the whole 'mobile' experience has shifted from making 'mobile' and 'full' sites to making mobile 'apps' and keeping the full site as is.
