Gives me more time to enhance the New Camera fund. If the natural disasters keep coming I might be able to afford a D4. Good thing my D300 is fresh from repair and rebuild.
Well, if Nikon are having a year to forget, at least they have valid, acceptable reasons. Japan seems to have a new tectonic reality (as if the old one wasn't bad enough) and it's been a while since Thailand had flooding this bad. All forgivable IMHO (and at least Nikon aren't funnelling money to tattooed advisers)......

Water pumping-out by the Rojana Industrial Park authority around Nikon (Thailand) Co., Ltd. has completed on November 26. Following this development, we are putting all our energy into restoring infrastructure and production equipment of the factory aiming for some part of factory operation to resume from January 2012. Alternative and limited production at our partner factories in Thailand has started earlier than expected, and we have started shipment of certain digital SLR cameras and interchangeable lenses since November 30."

that is really good news for the Nikon users, hopefully they will be able to announce the successors to the D3/D700/D300s soon.

Thailand is a real mess right now, but things are finaly looking up. Don Mueang airport has been underwater for more than a month There is a big debate on whether or not to repair it or scrap it altogether. Hard to imagine really.
Almost 350,000 going back to work this week, and now there might be worker shortage Feast or Famine.

It's not that bad. Don Mueang airport is Bangkok's second airport. International flights are still going in and out of the city. A work colleague has just had a holiday in Thailand and had no issues getting into, and around Bangkok for his first day there before moving on.

While these images do indicate a reduction in standing water, "any" blue indicates some standing water. That is to say that the flooding problem is still prevalent, just not as deep.
Other visual indicators of the problems remaining:
Western Digital is up and running a week ahead of schedule..but there is still plenty of water to be sure. Prime Minister said completely dry by Jan 1, but you know there will still be low lying areas that will be a bog.

It's still plenty bad. Best source of visual evidence are two images from NASA's Terra satellite:
