I've been scanning my 5 x5 print size color photos at a resolution of 600dpi. I find that in some cases i find fingure prints on the photos. What is the best method for cleaning the prints before I scan them?

Tip

Pay particular attention to glossy prints and the shadows of prints! Are the prints glossy, matte or do they have a subtle "lustre" texture? I am hoping that they don't have major texture like some very old "honeycomb" surface prints!

You are on the right track, it only takes a few seconds to clean before scanning... and much longer to try to fix after scanning.

You may also find that at 600 dpi you are enhancing defects without getting any real gain in photographic information. You may find it better to scan at a lower resolution and uprez later if needed.

Note the use of the word "may" a lot-- I'm hedging my bets!
