Last week, the producers of the television series Pan Am were filming at my local aerodrome, Republic Airport. They had been in a couple of times earlier this year, with a DC-7, for scenes that appeared in the opening episode. This time, they brought in the Boeing 707 owned by actor John Travolta. The airplane wears historic QANTAS colors, its first operator. As near as anyone can tell, it is the first time a 707 had flown into Republic. They used the American Airpower Museum hangar as a base camp, for wardrobe, makeup, extras, and catering. As a museum volunteer, I spent a couple of nights (as in 6pm to 7am...) with them, and got to meet a few of the actors and see some of what goes on during filming.

These are cool. Quite a transformation at the end. Are/were they all called Jet Clipper ... ? (I did notice the Jett)
    Anybody can do it.

Thanks! All Pan Am aircraft had "Clipper..." names. I've seen photos of PA 707s that include "Jet" in the title, and others without, so it may have changed over time as paint schemes were tweaked. On Travolta's QANTAS colors, the names are for his children - his son Jett, who passed away in 2009, and his daughter Ella.
