i put it under a sub category, so it shows up in the gallery that i want

So you put the whole event with all the galleries under that event into a sub-category? Sorry if I sound dense, but I never played with the events feature because I didn't think you could do what you did.

Sounds to me as if this isn't about the event marketing feature, but rather about using (sub)categories in general for structuring galleries (wherein photos from an event are uploaded to a gallery). Here's a good post on using categories:

for anyone getting started on organizing galleries.
