Adding a comment to a photo?

Tried figuring this one out on my own, no luck.

What is required for a visitor to leave a comment on a photo? How does this process work? I've had a couple people tell me they tried to leave a comment but were unsuccessful.

(When I logged out of my own SM page, I went back in and tried to leave a comment. When I clicked in the field, it only inserted my text in the Add a comment to rate photo field. There was no apparent way to submit it. Enter key only dropped me to next line...)

After clicking "Add comment" and typing in the various boxes, click "Add comment" again. (It would be below all of the boxes at that point)

Note that you need to have Comments enabled on the gallery for this to work. :-)

I wish I could include a screengrab (I'm at work) but when I visit my gallery as a visitor (logged out) and I type in the COMMENT box, there is no button or link that allows me to add comment. I have the "new" style layout activated.

If I'm logged in, as soon as I click in the comment box, the avatar switches to my BIO photo and a POST COMMENT button becomes available.

If I'm not logged in, when I click in the comment box, it literally inserts my blinking cursor within the Add a comment to rate photo... but no button appears or becomes active.

I'm Seth, one of the SmugMug Support Heroes. Sorry to hear about the trouble you've had with the comments. I checked your gallery both logged in an logged out and could not replicate the issue you show in your screen capture. Your Gallery Settings are set to allow comments. If you go back to the gallery you'll see that I have left a test comment for the first image in the gallery. I tried this using two browsers (Safari and Firefox) and couldn't replicate the problem you encountered. Can you please try using another browsers like Firefox or Chrome? Thank you for your help Seth. I noticed your comment posted last night. I've tried this on a PC with IE8 and a Mac with Safari. The problem was identical across both platforms. I know that on my Mac, I have 3rd party cookies blocked, not sure if that has anything to do with it. I'll experiment some more and see if I can narrow it down.

It looks like you're using the Sneak Peek of our new gallery style. As far as I know that'll only allow comments for logged in SmugMug users and while you're logged into Facebook. Also the gallery style only works properly if you're logged in to your account as it's a test product that's not available for visitors yet. Make sure to leave the test in your browser via the :
www.smugmug.com/darkroom
link and then you should be able to leave a comment as a visitor.

Again, leave the Sneak Peak for the new gallery style before using your site as a visitor to make sure everything works properly.

Thanks for the follow-up Sebastian. I did indeed switch back to the classic layout and tried it from there. Seems to be working fine. It also answered my question as to what credentials were requested when a visitor would like to leave a comment. I think for now I will leave my own view of my page "old school" so that I'm seeing exactly what my visitors see. I would assume that when the new style is rolled out for the public, there would be a prominent notice for SM users, yes?

I'm sure there will be a post on our news blog (news.smugmug.com) when we do so in addition to the quicknews item we post for major changes that comes up when you log in.
