Community Contributed Site using API

Would like to run the concept of a community site hosted on pro smugmug account where people worldwide can upload their pictures using their Facebook/Google/OpenID account to this site once they are authorized.

Think of a istockphoto but free of charge where users request membership and based on quality of their pictures (Manual process separately handled by email) they are granted access to upload their pictures.

Is this doable with the current API (has anyone done this before)

Look forward to your thoughts.
Thanks,
Singh

Not been done, but I'd look carefully at the SM TOS to see if there's any questions of legality. If you're allowing others to upload photos, there's also some copyright issues you'll need to address too.

As far as the technical side of it, if you're writing a complete custom site you'll be able to handle all of it easily on the backend. The API is quite powerful.
