Need to remove keyword...

I have a photo that has a keyword I need to remove. How can I do that?

I cannot see any keywords, interestingly.

Following a tutorial I found on Youtube, I created a keyword on some photos, which then I created a smart gallery to pull in those photos, and then have that be my home page slideshow.

I want to take one of those photos out from displaying, but I cannot find any keywords on the photo. When I go to the original gallery, and select 'Caption/Keword' under multiple photos, it brings up all the photos, and none have keywords. When I click on the photo and look under it on the photo displayed on the right, it shows no keywords.

I thought maybe it was because the keywords were on origionals, and my gallery was only showing thumbnails. I tried changing settings to show as much as original, but still nothing.

I also tried entering <site url>/keyword, and it brings up only 1 keyword, which I put on other photos. Its like the offending keyword doesn't exist, but there are photos in the gallery based on that rule.

Any suggestions on how I can see and delete existing keywords?

ALSO very important!!! You are forwarding shuttermaster.co to SmugMug - this is not supported. What is supported by us is CNAME alias, and that is fully explained here, holler if you need help: http://smu.gs/mQh57t

HI. Sorry I didn't include. I had presumed it didn't make any difference what gallery or keyword, as I presumed the answer would be the same no matter which it was.

The keyword is HomeSlideshow. The gallery that has the rule is "http://rogerewingphotography.smugmug.com/Other/HomeSlideshow/19790137_MmgJqX#1554938791_SwcGD7R".

The picture I'm wanting to remove the keyword from is here.

In fact jfriend told me about that late last night. i have a contact query into my DOMAIN supplier to make the change. I am hoping that can be done by Monday. (Actually hoped it would be sooner). I WILL get it taken care of.

    Thanks for your quick response.

The photos in that gallery have no keywords:

That is interesting. That is why I posted. Let me be specific on what I did, and hopefully you can shed some light on why I have what I have:

I put the HomeSlideshow keyword on all the photos that show up in that gallery. They are originally in another gallery.

I then created a rule on that gallery of "Include > My Photos > Keyword > HomeSlideshow", which still exists. The photos I put that keyword on are in the gallery. I have not directly added any photos to that gallery.

So, the photos are there, based on that keyword, but then that keyword doesn't exist.

I'm sure there is an logical explanation but it escapes me.

    Thanks for your thoughts...

Where did you apply the keywords? They are not on the photos via SmugMug's tool :)

I went to the gallery, selected Tools/Many Photos/Caption Keywords. Then in the Quick Entry, I left it at add, for 'this' I put in the keyword of HomeSlideshow, and I clicked the photos I wanted to add, and clicked save.

Then I created the gallery HomeSlideshow, created the rule to bring in the photos that have that keyword, and the photos appeared.

At this point I'm beginning to get the impression that you won't believe that (:D ...no offense will be taken)...and that some grimlins affected the photos. I'm sitting here trying to think if I thought of doing it but collected instead...but I remember going through that scenario, creating the rule (which does still exist), and being surprised I was successful on first atempt. ne_nau.gif

    Couple other questions:

    1. If I delete a rule that put photos in a gallery, will those photos disappear?
    2. If I delete a photo from a gallery that got there by that rule (or by collecting), will it delete it from the original gallery?

I'm thinking of just dumping all of them from that gallery (not that many) and going through the steps again, and see what happens.

In fact I'm fine with forgetting any mystery about this and starting it again.

If you have anything you want me to try related to this, I'd be happy to do so.

By the way, if you think that I should avoid using a keyword and gathering them this way, just let me know, and I will abandon that thought process, and just use collect.

    Thanks

Instead of creating a Smart Gallery to populate the Homepage Slideshow you can just use a keyword to populate the Homepage Slideshow directly. There are currently no images on yoru site that are using the keyword HomeSlideshow. You can check that by using this URL.

    http://rogerewingphotography.smugmug.com/keyword/HomeSlideshow

If you had them keyworded with HomeSlideshow at one point and then removed the keyword the Smart Gallery may not have updated yet. It does not constantly check that the images are keyworded, it occasionally checks and updates the gallery. In this case though you Collected those images to the gallery, you do have the Smart Rule setup but it is not adding any images to the gallery. All the images in the gallery were collected there manually.

Hope that helps. If you need anything else please let me know.

OK. Thanks. I'll take your word for it.

Can you specifically answer this question I had? I'll reword them a bit.

    1. If I delete a rule that put photos in a gallery, will those photos eventually disappear from that gallery?

On my second question above, I see that delete is not availble on a collected photo, just remove. I did find the help notes on that too.

    Thanks

OK, but it doesn't look to me like it would automatically do that. For example, let's say next week I upload 100 photos, and I want 5 of them in the HomeSlideshow gallery. I put the keyword in.

My impression is that with HomeSlideshow gallery being smart it would automatically pull them in, whereas if I do it by keyword, I'd then have to go over and manually pull them in by keyword.

    Is that incorrect?

The Homepage Slideshow will display any image on your site in a Public gallery that has the keyword that you set. If you have images keyworded with the word HomeSlideshow and those images are in Public, non-password protected galleries, then they will display in the Homepage Slideshow. Using a Smart Gallery is doing the exact same thing except it is more work on your part. The advantage of using the Smart Gallery is that you can have it include images from Unlisted and Password Protected Galleries.

When you go to the Smart Gallery Rules and change them you want to click refresh and then Save. That will update the gallery with images based on the new rules.

That is correct, you cannot delete images that are collected to a gallery, you can only remove them. If you want to delete them from your site you need to do that from the gallery they originate from.

Great support everyone. Thanks! I hope to be able to contribute soon :D

One last question (Last..."famous last words"): So I'm going to give this a shot, but I can't see how to delete that one rule in that smart gallery. Do I need to delete the gallery and recreate it to get rid of the rule?

Ah...interesting how blind a person can be if looking for something different. Thanks

So I succeeded in deleting the rule, and the pictures disappeared (I had set up the keywords).

What I am to blind to see no is how to bring in the pictures by keyword. I have an empty gallery, and don't see how to add photos by keyword. Thought maybe I needed to have at least one photo in, so I did a collect on it.

But I just seem unable to identify how to add photos by keyword, without using a smart rule. I've looked in the Tools/This gallery menu, and the Settings menu.

Sorry to have to ask, but how do I do that?

When you are trying to populate a gallery using keywords, you would need to use those Smart Gallery settings or use the collect photo feature you've used.

Considering you are using this to pull many photos into a single gallery, I would strongly suggest using Smart Gallery settings in order to get these images into the gallery. Other than collecting or smart galleries, the only other way you would be able to add photos to the gallery would be by picking through them back on your computer and uploading them again to this gallery. thumb.gif

Is it just the gallery we are dealing with now, right? Sorry, I've read and reread the thread and just want to make sure there is nothing I'm missing since the homepage slideshow looks to be up and running.

Hmmm....I'm getting conflicting information, or I'm misinterpreting what I read, quoting from post # 9:

That is what I was doing when I started this thread, and something happened that the keywords disappeared. The repliers here feel I didn't do it with keywords. I was moving to the way post 9 says.

And...I just now figured out how to add to the homepage gallery by keyword. My problem was that I set up the gallery titled HomeSlideshow as the homepage gallery. I was trying to add the photos on THAT gallery itself. But...to add them by keyword, you can only do that if once it is displayed on the home page, then go to the settings there, and select 'By Keyword'. I'll experiment with that tomorrow.

    Yes, just the gallery.
