Broken lens!

Help! Does anyone have any advice for me? My Nikon 18-200 zoom "fell open" to expose its innards...I gently pushed it back together, but the auto-focus doesn't work, and the manual focus, too, is hard to maneuver. Can this be repaired? Is there someplace I can send it?

Yes! I have Used KEH for repairs of non-warrantied lenses. They have an Online estimate and are very accessible overall.

If by chance it's under wtty, then look this page over: http://www.nikonusa.com/Service-And-Support/Nikon-Authorized-Repair-List.page

FWIW, I would contact the manufacturer first. I had a Canon 18-200 that suddenly wouldn't zoom below 24mm. I contacted Canon to arrange for a repair, and discovered there was a known issue causing this problem, and even though the lens was about 2 years old (1 year past warranty), Canon fixed it for free.

And don't forget that if you bought the lens new from an authorized dealer it is probably under Nikons extended 5 year warranty.

    Repair wasn't expensive
I have the same lens. This summer I took it on an adventure motorcycle trip. I shook the front element out of it by having it mounted on a D90 that was suspended vertically in a soft case. I sent it to Pho Tech in Hesston KS. Bernie repaired and lubed it for a total of $55.00...that included return shipping.

Pho Tech is listed by Nikon as an approved repair facility. Google Pho Tech for more info. I'm very pleased with Bernie's service!

I have had very good results and service with Nikon Repair in El Segundo CA. I have sent my equipment in through my Camera Shop. they have repaired 17-55mm f 2.8 dropped camera bag pulled out lens mount out of lens. Repair the VR and tripod collar on 200mm f2 and fixed and service my D300. Price depends on problem.
