Wireless Photo Frame

Hello, I am a "new" photographer messing around with my D40x and have really been enjoying this site. Lots of great information that I am s-l-o-w-l-y digesting. :thumb

I starting thinking the other day that having a digital photo that is able to be wirelessly updated would be a great gift for my parents. I also just started using Smugmug as my online storage after having used Mobileme. My parents always seem to have their laptop on with a running slideshow of the photos we upload. I have been searching the interweb for digital frames that can be updated over the air. That way they don't have to leave their laptop on all the time, saving the wear and tear. I would also think they would enjoy a frame more that can on a table, bedroom, office. It look like Kodak is the only device out there right now and I think I have to store the photos on their server to get them sent to the frame.

Does anyone know of any devices out there that would accomplish what I would like to do?

Thanks!
DAVE

I bought my parents a ViewSonic wifi frame several years ago. It worked perfectly by feeding the smugmug RSS feed through a 3rd-party service which fed the frame. Then, that service went out of business and the frame became basically useless to them. They've now put it in a drawer. I've yet to find a replacement solution that works for them.

That's a good idea. I'm not sure I know of any frames that would work. Digital frames are pretty expensive for the size that they are - I bet the laptop has a bigger screen. You might consider a netbook or a tablet - tablets have lots of wireless apps and stuff, I bet you could make that work. A tablet wouldn't be as artistic as a frame, though :D

I actually had tossed around the idea of a tablet of some sort but it is not a pretty framed product, like you mentioned. More importantly though, I was hoping to find something that was a set it and forget it kind of thing. Maybe Ronco can work on it?

A tablet might work, if you kept it plugged in all the time... I don't know how much power it would use. What's Ronco?
