When I see these re-enactment shots I nearly always feel as thogh they would look better in monotones......ugh....or duotones or tritones. Something more vintage.

A true tritone in PS is a thing of beauty if the contrast lends itself to that type of processing.

Agree these types of subjects scream out for a nice black and white.

Sorry but I am missing the point here, neither one is charming or creating a specific mood for me... Looks like the person is squeezed in the frame.
Can you post the Pre-filter image so we can compair.

Try blending the two together, vignette version on top at 50%, then use a layer mask to reduce it more on the face using a feathered paint brush.
