And this opens up a whole other can of worms. In a lot of states, Smugmug would be considered the company since they receive the payment and handle the order, not you. In this case, you wouldn't need to remit taxes at all, SM would.
In the next few years, this will all get sorted out. Until then, a lot of people will and won't be paying what is or isn't due. Sound confusing? You betcha!
Texas also requires sales tax not only on the products, but also shipping. I don't know if I'm just not looking in the right place, but is there a place that shows how much smugmug charged the client for shipping. I need the total sale price of products + shipping before the tax is added to report on my quarterly sales taxes. I have to break it down to 4 different tax jurisdictions (0.01125 0.0025 0.005 0.0625) that all have to equal the total tax rate of 8.125%.
All i see is:
Total Items Sold: 3
Your Price: $xx.xx
Base Price: - $xx.xx
Difference: $xx.xx
Coupon: $0.00
Gross Profit: $xx.xx
Your Profit (est.): $xx.xx
Sales Tax: $xx.xx
