Does anyone know why sometimes a photo might show up *below* the thumbnails in Smugmug view? I've been having this problem for quite a while and I'm not sure why.

Here's what I know:

It only happens in specific galleries. Two of them are here and here.

I use Windows 7 with a screen resolution of 1920x1200

It happens in both IE and Firefox

When I browse these galleries on other computers it does not seem to happen.

Is there any other info I can provide to anyone that can help?

Thanks in advance, and Happy Thanksgiving to all!

Jimmy

I was going to say it would be because the screen resolution is below 800x600, but your resolution is fine. It seems like there's an element that's on the page that in these two galleries (description, etc.) that changes the layout and then SM doesn't know to resize the image to the next smaller size. This is just a guess though.

Looking at the galleries (stunning shots too!), I noticed that these both have a lot in the gallery description. Try removing that description and see what happens. I'd cut and paste it somewhere so you can put it back after the test.

This can happen in IE, if your system zoom is set to other than default (100%).... go to control panel, and set your system zoom to 100% and then you can use any browser zoom you like. If you want to leave your system zoom at greater than default, you can use a better browser than IE, like Firefox or Chrome... holler with questions, happy to help.

No, this has nothing to do with the issue, sorry!

Learned something new! I saw this problem on a computer I was playing with at Best Buy yesterday and had no idea what was wrong. Now I know. thumb.gif

This sounds very similar to a known bug (see http://dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=205648). It seems to occur with IE9 running under Win7 on certain systems with relatively small screens with high resolution (e.g., laptops). Apparently, the Win7 installation sometimes DEFAULTS to a system display setting of 125% -- which the Smugmug gallery layout can handle with IE8 but not IE9.

But this OP says his symptoms are showing in only two galleries (and he does have others in the Smugmug style) and also with Firefox.

Thanks everyone for the advice and for the nice comments. I was out all day yesterday enjoying Thanksgiving w/ the family, but I tried fixing it this morning with successful results.

I took Andy's advice and went and checked my system zoom and it was already set to 100%, so I checked the zoom in each of my respective browsers, Firefox and IE.

In IE, the zoom (VIEW --> ZOOM) was set to 115% I believe, so I switched it back to 100%, closed the window and re-opened it and the problem was solved.

In Firefox I could not find anywhere that showed the percentage zoom (VIEW --> ZOOM again). It just showed [zoom in], [zoom out] and [reset]. So I clicked reset and nothing happened. So in order to fix the problem I just changed the zoom level using the CTRL key and the mouse wheel until it was most similar to what I had in IE. Closed the window and re-opened it and problem solved.

I suppose I'm still a little confused why it only happened on a couple/few pages, and that it's possible to occur on others' browsers, but I'm just happy I understand the problem/solution now.

    Thanks again everyone!clap.gif
