I'm looking for a pair of warm gloves that I can wear and not be all thumbs trying to use my camera.
I hike up in the so cal mountains and it's getting cold.
Can anyone recommend a thin, warm, waterproof pair of gloves?
Or is there such a thing?
Thanks.

Davev's post "I buy about the cheapest gloves that I can.
I've had down and thinsulate, I really don't feel that they're worth the cost.
At a local Menard's, they normally have a bin of "ski" gloves for $5 a pair.
I bought 5 pair last year, I should be set for years.
I've been out for hours in -20 degree temps using them, so far so good.
Not to get into a big how to dress thing, but I feel I know a bit about it working construction for 30 years. (in Minnesota)
The warmer you keep your torso, the more heat there is to send around to the rest of your body.
I see a lot of folks that have a fall jacket on in the middle of winter, with very warm, expensive gloves,
but their hands still get cold.
Do a layer thing on your body, and cover your head, then almost any winter gloves that block the wind will work."
is a serious consideration.
I just have to experiment I suppose.
Thanks again ziggy.

The key to finger warmth is two gloves. The first is a glove liner..like this..

Then you don't need a really thick and stiff outside glove..like this..

They carry hundreds of gloves. If they don't have a brand name like Fieldsheer, or Tour Master they will be "house" brand. The House brand is a good glove and a steal for the money..but is made of a material that is so slick it is hard to pick up..anything..NASA could use this as a liner for the nose cone to reduce wind drag
Motorcycle glove are made different because your hands are the first flesh the wind hits. They are almost all sewn curved which is a real benefit when working with your hands in the cold.
The comment about keeping the torso warm is correct also. Motorcycle jackets are manufactured different also.. mostly concerning the wind leaks. They also have good sized pockets..and lots of them.
This is a great jacket and is 3/4 length.

This is a "house" jacket they have had on sale for a year. They must have had a ship load made. I had them throw one in a large order I made last year. I use it for firewood duty. I cant believe what a decent jacket it is. And has a zip-out liner
Don't know how they do it.

I have done extensive cold weather riding testing so if you see something and want a opinion.. fire away
