OMG, hard to say... 5 thru 10 are stunning! better than your first set... thumb.gif I would definitely use one of these for an entry... 5 is very captivating because of the crop and the fact that you have that one young duck in the middle... 7 & 8 are not your usual flight shots... very nice... :D

In love with #5 - looks like a postcard. I like the young chick in the middle and the overall tone and color is beautiful creating a wintery feel. #7 is a close second for clarity in flight and pattern (so hard to get just right!). GP

I have to say that I really like #1. I know others are not liking that as much but it hits for me. All are really nice shots.

These are phenomenal shots! I would love to see birds in flight like this even if I couldn't capture shots like these. :D I looked at the new shots when your post first hit the forum and felt there was no way I could choose. I saw #5 and thought "That's the one!" and then would see the next one.... But here goes.

#1 I still love the soft background of this gorgeous shot and its feeling of "onward and upward".

#5 This shot is amazing. So much to look at with the one on the right facing you and the little one in the middle.

#6 It seems as if they are angling toward us (you) and this together with the varied position of their wings suggests movement. (This is not my favorite because you have so many great ones here, but I wanted to comment on the angle.)

#7 Love the clarity, the background, the uniformity of their movement, etc. Nice contrast of birds and background.

#10 I like 8 and 9 very much, but #10 is the other new shot that grabs my attention. The contrasting textures of feathers, the ripples and reflections in the glassy water, the grouping of the ducks - it all works for me.

The best I can do is say 1, 5, 7 and 10 - not necessarily in that order!

    Congrats on these shots!

Fun stuff! I'm in the #7 camp. The others are good as well, but I'm having trouble with the motion blur on the flapping wings. Tough to freeze.

I'm a fan of #7 because I love it's crispness, and the background fodder, but what this shows is the dynamics of the duck; that as it's body turns, the head stay's level. Gorgeous! My preference would be to see that body position closer but like the motion blur of the wings, tough, I'm sure.

Nonetheless, #7 would get my vote.

Thank you all for the feedback.
It is hard for me to choose a favorite too. My wife is pulling for #5 I like it but I wish it had the light that number 1 or 10 has it shows the iridescence that is in there feathers. 1,3,7 are favorites of mine because it shows the aerial ballet that goes on when they are doing the courtship flights. #5 is what happens before a flight takes off, a Hen gets mobbed by the Drakes and they are doing their displays and jockeying for position. Then the girl takes off and the boys follow, they take a few laps around the pond flying in formation.
I did take some video but it does not show well and it was a cloudy morning. If I get another chance I will get some to show the antics.

Chris, on #7 is that that Hen surrounded by the 'Drakes'?

You mean the hen in number 5 ? I could not say for sure there are groups all over the pond and getting up at different times.

No, in image #7. I know nothing about ducks, less the GREAT info you shared above.
I'm assuming the males have the dark heads with the white stripe up the neck, and the females are a softer brown, with a consistent brown head.
If thats the case, then I for me #7 is the one. It's the most telling and compelling with the males surrounding the female on their flight around the pond.

    Thanks for the education!

Yes you are right the males will be the most colorful in the duck world the females are all about concealment when nesting. Usually the only way to tell the difference between females of different species is the speculum or the color bars on the wings that will be the same in both male and female but is different between species.
7 I like because of the lighting the clouds caused giving the ducks a nice glow with a shaded area behind them then a sunny area in the far BG and the pattern of the flock at time of capture. But I still have not made up my mind yet. Only time not having a focused theme works against me

Number 5! Number 5! Although they are all a visual treat, there's something special about #5....I think it's the pearl colors and the quite interesting s curves of the ducks.....

5 is my favorite, followed by 2, followed very closely by 7. They are all fantastic photos; I'd be proud of each one.
