The first one doesn't particularly grab me, but #2 is great -- the narrow depth of field really draws my attention to her fantastic expression.

I tend to disagree with Brett. I rather go for picture one. The blur in #2 is a bit to artificial for me.
But that is a matter of taste.

I wonder if it is grain or noise that has been added ? Can you tell us ?

NIK filters provide a nice grain by emulating Photo paper. Gaussian noise is not the same.

It is NIK film effects. 400 speed film, don't remember which film it was but the grainiest one I could find.

Another vote for #2 - such a great expression. I too love grainy BW so a big +1 on the treatment

I'm with the #1 lovers. The blacks look a bit blocked up on my screen but I really like the shot.
