Adding sequential numbers?

Is there an easy way to add a sequential numbering to Caption so if people are looking at pictures they can just take easy notes -- the number of pictures on the page might vary according to monitor size and screen size and swing "second over left in third row" may not work. I'd like to be able to just add something simple to the caption so the person can use that to direct me to the photos. I would think some sort of XXX-123 would suffice= thanks much.

If you use Smugmug style the number is above the main photo.

Sorry! I never even thought of that...Ocham's Razor? Thanks for the suggestion = think I probably should include that somewhere in the gallery descriptions or on the site...it just didn't occur to me. Thanks.

But this only works if you don't have hidden images. If you have hidden images, it throws off the count.

I show my filenames. So when someone is asking me about photo x on page y, I just ask them what the cation is below the photo. <img src="https://us.v-cdn.net/6029383/emoji/thumb.gif&quot; border="0" alt="" >

Depending on what you are trying to accomplish, I have had success with using Events and then having people mark their favorites and add comments directly to the image that way. You can find more information at http://help.smugmug.com/customer/portal/articles/83125 it has worked for me on three uses so far.
