Very true, and still an issue on this side of the pond

SamirD, the "pond" between you and us is a hemisphere of Pacific Ocean. It is most excessively NOT the pond between you and the UK!! 16,000km vs 6,000km!!

So, it's like a Big Pond then. rolleyes1.gif

I've actually wanted to visit there for so long. Maybe someday I'll be able to do it. iloveyou.gif

This has been one of my favorite cars of all time--never available in the US, but you guys got it:

When you come you'll find the right words to describe non-stop sitting above water for 13+ hours!

That car looks like a pre-Renault Nissan. The latest Renault-Nissan sedan in Aus is:

A Renault engine has won all this GP season's events.

Oh, I've done international flights before. A return travel from Mumbai, India to home is just shy of 30hrs. When I finally get to sleep, I end up waking up two days later. rolleyes1.gif

That looks very similar to our current Altima. I'd still take that old one over the new one anyday. iloveyou.gif

We actually have these here as the Pontiac G8. :D Well, not anymore now that GM discontinued the brand. What's interesting is that you guys never got the big v8 with 309.47Kw/562.03Nm that we did in our GXP model:
    http://www.pontiac.com/g8/?useFlash=N

I actually just finished up a bunch of event coverage with the 2dr version of these, our Pontiac GTO:

Yeah, they're related. But while I can read the "meaning" of the Aussie car (it speaks my language), your version is "foreign". The Aussie car has "go-kart" in it, it's hetro to the welds. The Yank car has more swank, its AC/DC.eek7.gif

    Neil

PS Enjoyed looking at your coverage!

Oh yes, the Holdens are much more of a driver's car than the US public can handle. There aren't many true driver's cars here, even though we have awesome roads in most areas. Most of ours have soggy suspensions, underpowered brakes, and overpowered engines. The G8 was closer to what you probably have down under than we've ever had, but it's still probably a fair bit off.

Now what we really need are Utes. :D We don't have any of those. :cry

Thank you for the compliments on the coverage. I've got only 20,000-30,000 more photos to publish by Dec 17th. eek7.gif

Oh man, there is a type of Aussie that is grafted to his ute. And funny, even though there is hardly a greater proof of masculinity than driving a ute, and having a sheila in the passenger seat or not is neither here nor there in that regard, the show utes driven around town, mythical virgins of immaculate copulation, those show utes and the driving of them around town are so absolutely and foppishly camp!!:D

As compensation for the publishing facing you, all I can offer is the thought that each of those 20,000 - 30,000 photos represents a shutter press moment of photographic pleasure! Have fun!thumb.gif

Couple years ago I did a semester abroad in Gold Coast Australia. I'm a car guy so when I stepped off the plane I was shocked to see such strange looking cars. The stereotypical midlife crisis car seemed to be the Ford Falcon ute (pic from Google).

no you never see anyone in midlife crisis driving a ute like that in Aus! they would be laughed at! it's purely a very campy way of expressing one kind of young male identity. and they also express someone with new debt, and perhaps some other deficits, and neck RGB 255 0 0! not part of the desired image for a midlifer! here a midlifer would go for something James Bond 007 -ish

Yes, but so do the bad guys. :cry

But there's something just so unique about a ute that we don't have. GM had it for a short time with the SSR, but that's long gone. I bet one of those would really turn heads down under though.

The only real compensation is knowing that web site traffic will soar as thousands flock to look at the photos and the 1-2% that buy something will generate some badly needed revenue. I just found out that one of my regular customers is going digital this year vs prints. :cry

Sweet! I used to know the admin of Gold Coast Cars, which was a car forum there. We started cross posting photos to each others' sites to show each part of the world what was on the others. I think the site was bought out and then merged and then dissolved. :cry Pity. It was a great group.
