On November 5-6 Moorpark is going to host "the biggest Civil War Event in Southern California".
ADDED: http://www.forttejon.org/moorpark/
Dates and times:
  1. Sat Nov 5: battles at 12:00, 3:00 and 5:15
  2. Sun Nov 6: battles at 12:00 and 2:00.
Public admission starts at 10am every day.

If nothing else, I'm going to go on Sunday around 10 am and shoot until 2 smth. If I'm lucky, I'll borrow my boss' 100-400 (and maybe his MarkII, too:-).

Anybody wanna join me? Should be fun!

Cheers!:1drink

Rare opportunity to shoot totally strange people right in the face and get a smile in return.

I guess I need to replenish my business cards collection I have less than 20 left.. Darn it, so little time...

Business wise: who has an idea how to promote yourself on event like that w/o spending thounsands of bucks on a flying zeppeling with your site URL? I mean you can't possibly hand out cards to everyone remotely interested... And I don't have a stand or banner, and won't be able to scramble one in two weeks...

    All ideas are welcome!!

    JK :-)
I saw these reenactments on TV and in movies, but never saw one IRL.
With the location being less that 10 minutes away I can't let this opportunity slide...:):

They are really fun events....I used to watch em all the time , but this was before I started shooting. I was a big civil war buff and I thought it was a blast.

Nik - is this a civic event or privately produced? Will you be able to take photographs if it's a private event?

As for promo... how about a t-shirt with you URL and telephone number on the back? (it's cheap and quick)

Sorry I wasn't clear. What I meant... if it's a privately produced event and you pay admission the producers may have copyright protection over commercial images.

Of course many people will take pictures but selling them may be another matter all together.

If it's a civic event organized and produced by the city then all is fair game.

I might (might) be able to come up.

As I mentioned before, our plans is to arrive around 10 am, scount the terrain, take the closeup pictures (me), do some school research (Helen), have a bit around 11:30, then set at a good vantage point at noon and enjoy the battle scene.
My boss let me use his 100-400L again:-)
