I'm planning on doing it. I took a drive up the coast today to scope out some spots. I noted there was a pretty good fog bank too a ways out which was disappointing. Now I'm thinking it might be better to shoot from the Santa Cruz mountains, but I'm not sure where I can find a good view of the coast from up there. I've seen spots years ago when I live out here previously, but not sure I can find them on short notice.

Ian, any ideas? Want to join me?
It's been hit and miss on the coast lately. Not sure where I'd go. Maybe Mt. Hamilton? Dunno.
I have things to do tomorrow which is why I'd be iffy at best.

Actually, anybody in the bay area who's interested in getting together to shoot it should ping me. Especially if you have a good secret-spot to shoot from.
Had to resort to my back-up plan. I wanted to frame the Lunar Eclipse with a local landmark. Didn't work as I thought, so I drove out to another landmark, Lake Yosemite here in town.
I agree. Very creative, Mike. I wish I'd done something like that. But we were all socked in here at the coast, and I ended up driving out to the central valley to be able to see anything at all. By the time I got there, I just pointed a big-ass telephoto at it and snapped a few shots. :giggle
Can anyone play? Around 5:30 am, 20 degrees, from west of Tulsa OK. I'm not super pleased with this, but here it is. I was using some Canon stiching software I hadn't used before. Hope the image isn't to big. T1i with a 250 IS zoom.
It may be to small to really see.
Thanks Ian, here's the big big one lol, way to big to post http://img268.imageshack.us/img268/9122/test2gk.jpg
I had it on live view and with that you can zoom alot digitally, So pretty much I was chasing it, as it progressed through the view finder lol. I really like the last frame, but need to take out the high lines (power lines).
No Hawaii for me lately. :cry But I was up in Santa Cruz for a couple of days this week. GPI is being integrated up there. I felt a twinge of remorse driving through Campbell, but not much!

And you didn't phone :cry
I bet that was cool though.
I pass by the old place fairly often. I don't give it a second thought

And it's been pretty cold lately too. Can't decide if I'm gonna get up.

Earlier still. Just a few hours away. Just as well we can't see it from here, because it is going to be about 10 degrees F at 4am.

But instead, I'll go the other direction with this one from August in Texas.

It was cool but not quite what I hoped. Oh, and it's 32.8*F and the temp is still dropping

It shows the Umbra of the Earth, which I had never seen photographed in this way before. Really cool if you like Astronomy.
