"Welcome to the Street & PJ Forum
This forum is dedicated to the urban scene. In addition to photojournalism and
traditional street photography, spontaneous shots depicting urban life belong
here--even if no people are shown or if it's not actually in the street. It is not
meant for skylines or urban panoramas, though; vistas should still be posted
in the Landscapes forum. Street scenes and candids, back alleys, graffiti, dimly
lit bars, etc., all may be posted here. So get out there and remember to look
both ways before shooting."
I know that in some parts of the world, a gathering of that many sheep
would be considered a red light district, but does that make it urban?
I have problems thinking of where I live - Orlando, Florida - as urban,
but I think you're pulling the wool over our eyes to say this image is
urban.
Still, an interesting photo and I wouldn't have seen it in the Landscape
forum.

Hey Tony thanks for looking in.
Regarding the non photo remarks: The title says Streets AND Photo Journalism.
Photo journalism is not necessarily street photography; but likened to newspaper work (pix with text).
I differ with Richard on this point. I believe Baldy & company chose the title and Richard keeps the lid on. Correct me if I'm wrong Richard.
Richard also is an advocate (urban and B&W). This position is somewhat off base for a mod, but I respect his indulgence and I think he's a good photog, who I can learn some things from.
BTW, two images you recently posted are outside the sticky definition (Orlando Dog Club & Biker portrait); both good images and I'm glad you posted them.
How am I doing so far? Hope I haven't pizzed anybody off.
Where do I come from may be of more interest than where I live now. In the late sixties I managed & lived in the lower east side managing 500 units in my real estate business, 100% welfare; it was an extremely high crime area then, where heroin was king.
I lived in grunge, tasted it, was effected by it and ran from it - so I'm not that inclined to shoot it.
But hey that's just me.
If you go to the dog club; lets see some shots - I love to shoot dogs

Unwind them knickers. I didn't object to the placement.
I just observed that it isn't my idea of urban. I liked the photo.
I didn't post the dog track photos in this forum. They ran
over in the DGrin Mini-Challenges forum and they were on-topic
for the assignment: "Inside Out and Outside In". BD, who
was the judge of that particular Challenge, was kind enough
to post a link to that thread. While my submission "won"
that round, there was some very good street stuff in there
from other people.
I think both "Jean" and "Jean's Amigo" were "street" enough
in that they were spontaneous candid shots of strangers in the
wild. I'm a bit disappointed that "Jean" didn't draw any comments
because that's the first time I've used a "gimmick" in post. I used
a "Dragan Effect" Action and wanted some feedback on it.
(Well, the second use of a gimmick. Some time back I posted
a photo using selective color in a black and white and got my
ears pinned back. Like Newt, I'm trying to live down my past.)
To me, "Photo Journalism" is a recording of a specific event
of some newsworthiness. A photo of a car that crashed into a
crowd of sheep is PJ; just a crowd of sheep is not. But, as I
said, I liked the image.

Anybody else catch that little gem?
