Hi everyone,

haven't posted in a while, so I thought I would check in. nice to see some familiar names still posting quality work.

here are a few from the past few months in Great Falls, VA. Curious for any and all comments:

"Living on the Edge"
A Great Blue Heron scales a strip of bedrock alongside the violent currents of Great Falls.
Canon 5dm2, Canon 200mm/2.8L, f/7.1, 1/6 sec, ISO 50

"Nice Flows"
Sunset glows pink in the sky and rocks at the Maryland side of Great Falls.
Canon 5dm2, Nikkor 14-24mm/2.8, f/18, ISO 50, 2 exposure blend for dynamic range

"Forces through Stone"
The fierce Potomac River cuts through to bedrock as it makes its way down through Maryland and Virginia.

"Dramatic Rapids"
Avenues of sunlit clouds channel across the sky over intense river flow at Great Falls, Virginia.
Canon 5dm2, Nikkor 14-24mm/2.8, f/16, ISO 50, 3 exposure blend (2 for motion, and one more for dynamic range)

    Number one is simply awesome! The composition, and capturing just the right amount of movement in the water to convey its power, is perfect.

    I'll join the chorus in praise of these shots, especially the first which is an absolute gem! I'm not a big fan of HDR photography, but you have captured well the river and environs of this great place.

    On a personal note, I grew up kayaking on the Potomac, and spent many a wonderful evening jumping off these falls in my boat. (Back in those days, we weren't allowed to run it during the day or on crowded weekends.) Your shots brought back a lot of memories! Thanks for posting!!

    john - great falls is marvelous and actually, i've been thinking of kayaking it this spring. i'll let you know how it goes :)

    OK...and you are a very experienced paddler, right? I've pulled a few dead bodies out of the river below the falls...

    Very nice set and I agree with the gang that #1 is really a killer shot. Very nicely composed and plenty of room on the top of the image for commercial use, should you try and market it.

    doug, have only had a couple commercial licenses granted... hope to stand up more of a structure for this going forward. any suggestions are welcome!!!
