Hey Skippy, I see you're using your new smugmug home for this shot, and a cool shot it is! Zoo or out in the wild?

I couldn't have asked them to pose any better than they were, they just stood there raised their heads and howled away :D nowwwww if those birds would be just as co-operative as these wolves, things would go much easier for me to take their picture don't ya think mwink.gif take care Harry...... I love the lack of color, it seems to fit the mood of the shot very well. The DOF is also very nice with the back wolf blurred.

    Hello,

It is a cool shot. Nice framing and subject.

There's a wolf center in northern Minnesota where the head woman can go behind the shed and start howling - all the other wolves then start up too, supposedly not knowing it is her. I'lll have to pay attention and get a picture next time I'm there.

I believe all these wolves are actually related (a family) they are in excellent condition, and their enclosure is very natural looking, you could get away with saying you shot them in the wild, because it was possible not to get any fencing in the shot :D Glad you liked it....... Just seeing them was a thrill in itself, I have only ever seen one wolf and that was at the Melbourne Zoo, but it looks shabby, and paces constantly, not these guys they seem quite happy to be where they are, and the female keeper did not appear to be concerned about being alone with so many of them.

These wolves were actually sleeping and just laying about when we go to the Refuge ..... I was standing there watching them, hoping they would get up and do something, then that siren went off, and we got a reaction immediately.
They all looked at each other as if to say "Here We Go!" and they almost looked like they were smiling rolleyes1.gif it was great to watch them do their thing so to speak....... thanks for looking Steve...... Skippy (Australia)

They were howling the blues rolleyes1.gif funny ya know the instant the siren went off they became very lively, but once that siren was out of ear shot, they stopped just as quickly as they started and all went back to their sleeping positions :D thanks for the comment...... Skippy (Australia)

    Cool wolves!

Actually my two Corgis do that "look" at each other thing and act in unison.

I have one who howls, never had a dog do that before. I am glad Skye does it, but at late hours or wee hours, I have to bring him inside when he is outside baying at some dog down the street. Or a siren would do him, too.
The other one barks, but Skye howls. Was so cute to see him do that as a puppy. I was delighted.

Your wolves look wonderful! So great to get a shot of that.

You what these Wolves really went ape over ? more than the Siren going off ???? ...... Lavender.....the young lady that was looking after them had a spray bottle with water and lavender in it ....not sure if it was lavender oil, but when she sprayed that stuff around their enclosure they reacted like cats do to catnip.....they threw themselves in it, they rolled in it, they dragged their bodies over the areas she sprayed it, they rubbed their faces in it......they got a real high off it.
We were stunned that a wolve would love Lavender eek7.gif how bout that ??
Glad you liked the wolf shot Ginger....... Skippy (Australia)

I am very pleased with the performance of the 400mm, I just really didn't own it long enough before I went to USA to really give it a good try out.
By the time May 2006 comes around I should have a better grip on it, I'd like to give it a work out at the Melbourne Zoo here in Australia :D also I'd like to get more experience with panning.
