Various problems logging into site (and editing too)...

Hello,

I'm puzzled as to why, when I log into Smugmug to edit my site, I cannot see any of my editing buttons, or sometimes, I can't even get in (like now). Each time I've tried, over the past few weeks, something different happens:

1) Logged in, cannot see edit buttons; no Control Panel, nothing. Yet I checked to see if I'm really logged in, and I am (link says "Log Out", so I'm obviously "in")... :dunno

2) Another time logged in: Can't see edit buttons on Home page like I used to. I had to click on any of my other Nav links (eg. Guestbook page), and then I can see edit buttons there. Yet if I click on "Home" I see no edit buttons or menu to Control Panel.
Sometimes, when I've selected the Control Panel, I've been sent back to the SmugMug Login Page...???

3) Right now, I cannot log in at all (see #1, except I keep seeing the "Login" link, so I never got in).

I didn't post about #1 and #2 before because I eventually got in, but now, I can't at all.

Can someone help me with these problems I'm having? :scratch

My site is http://www.pmbimages.com

Thanks.

    Hi Paula

Often-times, after logging-in (especially when using a custom domain), you'll need to click the "Refresh" button on your browser to get the Admin Toolbar to show up. 9.9/10 times, this will get it to load properly :-)

When you have difficulties logging-in (#3), is it rejecting your email/password - or is the screen just "blank"? If you can't remember your password, just go to www.smugmug.com, and click the "Login" button at the top. On that screen, click "Forgot Password", enter the email address associated with the account, and we'll send you a new, temporary password. Once you receive this, you can log-in - but be sure to go to Control Panel > Settings > Account Password, to change this to something more secure (and that you'll remember) :-)

If you still have difficulties, please contact the Heroes - http://help.smugmug.com

    All the best

    Hi Bobby,

My login/password is "remembered", so I didn't have to type it. I'd never changed my password. I've never gotten a blank page either.

With problem #3, I'm taken to the SmugMug home page, and it shows I wasn't logged in (I see the small "login" link again at the top right of the page).

I managed to get in yesterday, but since the problem seems intermittent, I'm not sure if it has "gone away" for good. I will keep in mind what you've advised though, and will email support directly next time if refreshing doesn't work again.

    Thanks!

    Paula,
With a custom domain it's normal that after logging in you see your visitor view at first. Let the page load completely and only once your browser is done loading the homepage, refresh the page in your browser to have the login cookie get transferred over to your custom domain. Then usually the owner view comes up. In some cases it might be needed for you to browse to a gallery first to have the login cookie get transferred and have the owner view come up.

If you still have an issue even after navigating to a gallery, check your browser cookie settings to ensure that it's set to accept all cookies from all sites:

Thanks, Sebastian! :) My browser was always set to accept cookies.
Yes, I did notice I had to go to a gallery first before the owner view worked. It wasn't like that when I signed up a few years ago -- not until the last few months, but, I guess it's normal now for this to happen (either that or I was just lucky before :D). So far things are working okay again, but I will keep this "browsing a gallery first" part in mind. Thanks again for confirming that.

Alternatively, you could also wait for your homepage to load completely in the browser after logging in. Once it's loaded, refresh the page and that should bring up the owner view, but it may not work at all times, especially if you have customizations, like a homepage slideshow.
