Playing with an orchid

Two shots of a pale phalaenopsis orchid. First one is a partial focus stack with just a LED backlight.
2nd shot is a deeper focus stack still using the LED backlight but with some fill flash (camera in AV mode, flash on -.66 FEC)
Both stacked using zerene stacker

Overfocused

I think the backlit one is more interesting overall, and I like it a lot. I definitely want to look longer at that one than the second one. Even though the second one has a wider DOF, the first one still shows more detail with shading and shapes. Lighting trumps DOF in this case for me


I think dodging the pistil just a slight bit in #1 would balance out the pic perfectly

Very nice images. I think even nicer would be something in between with less fill--enough to lighten it but little enough to leave the patterns from backlighting more pronounced.
