Stop Motion Software and Canon?

Hello All-

I have been having some fun with Stop Motion on my iPad using the StopMotion app for 99 cents it does more than expected.

So I have been thinking I might want to try with something better to get better results than this http://goo.gl/oGZf7

Has anyone had success or failures with applications on Mac (prefered) or Windoze? I would be using an XTi or a PowerShot950. I have read the online reviews and most of the ones I have seen require a USB camera or their own camera so that is why I figured ask here.

    What kind of application do you need? Control the camera? Edit?

    I am looking for something that can do the "onion skin" so I can see the last shot relative to the new shot and also assembly of the images at X frames per second. So I guess control the camera and minimal edit. Did I mention I am cheap?
