of real urban scenes. If there is an urban setting where the devil stacks
Dixie cups, then I'm unaware of it. The title - May be [sic] you want to
try some Black Ale) does not seem to apply to the photo. Maybe there
are explanations, but - if so - a textual explanation could be included.
There are some anomalies in the photo: The devil has one type of paper
cup and the woman has a different type. There is a bottle or can opener
(a Church Key in my Hoosier lexicon) on the table but no bottle or can
visible. There is what looks like a fishing pole leaning against the wall
in a restaurant the provides linen napery.
The lady could make a good subject in the proper setting, but the
plastic cup is incongruous with her style.

Ha ha, definitely not staged. Otherwise, I'd have correct lighting, with proper props etc. but this is no different from, say, shooting inside a restaurant, or any place that has a gathering of people. In this particular case, the setting is simply a party room at a science fiction convention (Loscon) and these people happened to dress up.
The person on the right is dressed up as Darth Maul and (she) is hosting a party game. The game itself is trying to decipher the flavor/type of the soda sample that Darth was serving. The stick on the wall was the infamous Darth Maul lightsaber. "Black Ale" is a Star Wars drink.

I see. Not my thing since I view SF character photography about
the same as BD views photographing the homeless. But, now
understandable after your post.

And I know why BD doesn't advocate photographing the homeless and it's different from party shooting. You're thinking about going to an anime convention or some such and photographing people in costumes and posing. That is shooting fish in a barrel. I have tons of those too, but I would not show them in this forum.
