Small demonstration

Another political protest in Madrid. Unlike the large, general protests that happened here in the spring, this one was narrowly focused on a specific issue. Under Spanish law, in order to be eligible for social services (including healthcare), you must have a document that demonstrates where you live. For most people this is no problem, but the bureaucratic rules make it impossible for some to obtain the needed certificate. The homeless need not apply, but it also can be difficult for people sharing an apartment or renting a room. As a result, some of the people most in need of services are ineligible to pass the bureaucratic hurdles, as officially they don't exist. About 200 people staged a protest in central Madrid to call attention to this problem.

The masks were not the Guy Fawkes, anarchist ones that have appeared so frequently in the past year. Instead they were white and entirely featureless, meant to symbolize the forced anonymity of this group.
