I just discovered a new firmware download is available for the 20D.

Get it here: http://www.canon.co.jp/Imaging/eos20d/eos20d_firmware-e.html

Cheers!

So many firmware updates seem to be to "improve reliability with certain CF cards". What is so dang hard about writing to a memory device?

I wondered exactly the same thing.

Actually, the quote I saw was closer to "improved communication when using CF cards" -- which is not clear at all. Improves communication with what? Over the USB connection? Using the wireless (WiFi) adapter, for which support was added in a previous firmware update? With the CF card itself (and if so, exactly how could the communication be "improved" with a CF card, other than speeding it up)? Maybe this was just a Japanese-to-English-translation issue, but it was perplexing.

I did perform the update -- then realized in horror(!) that I had not followed the directions correctly because I had not removed the lens. I feared that I just corrupted the firmware and would have to send the 20D to Canon for repair ... but after a few minutes without batteries, I rebooted it and the new firmware came up, so I guess it went OK after all. Does anyone know why Canon says the lens has to be removed?
