I like what you've done with the lighting on her face and her eyes really sparkle but I'm left wondering what she has in her hands. The background does nothing to enhance the portrait either and is a tad distracting plus the crop does not work for me ...too much air over her head...
I would crop off considerably from the top of the frame as well as frame left....

Jf your working toward a dramatic lighting pattern you have succeeded. I would prefer a reflector to open the shadows more. Agreeded on the toning down of the books. It might work better as a horizontal crop.

Looks good to me on this monitor, slight blue tint maybe and take about 20% crop from the top. Like the contrasty light.

+1 on the blue tint, otherwise I really like it .... + I'm sure it looks awesome in b&w also! iloveyou.gif

Ditto on the blue color cast and that I would prefer what is in her hand to be lit just a tad so I can tell what it is... if not, then get rid of what she's holding if it's unimportant to the image.

Crop it vertically to right above her head and to the edge of the chair on the right and it will be a stunning shot.
Photography teaches us to observe again. Me.
I am in AZ and would love to meet others from Phoenix.

"but if the model like the photo and the photographer like is that ok ?"

This is a question that should ellicit alot of comments.

Not saying this about your photo but lets pretend.......if two people like a bad photo does that make it a good photo? Again not saying that about your photo. You had a goal in mind and you accomplished it.

would love to hear others respond.

Remember f stop controls your subject and shutter speed controls the background light when using flash. So if you thought your bkg was too dark when you reviewed the shot you could have slowed the shutter to pick up more light in the bkg and not affect the subject.

People like pictures for a lot of reasons - and not all of them have to do with how 'good' the picture is.
    - I took that picture, it's sharp and well exposed
    - whee, that's me and I don't look bad
    - I love puppies, horses, my daughter, babies, etc.
    - I like the color red
    -all flowers are beautiful
-I come from that town also

My goal is to make a picture that has some merit as a portrait, even a piece of art, and then I hope that the subject would like it also.
