Hi Doc - with the second domain, I followed the GoDaddy/SmugMug advice to forwarding without masking to the "primary" domain. That never worked. I ended up calling GoDaddy Tech Support, and they mentioned the same thing - that you don't CNAME the "secondary". Anyway they ended up fixing it for us (I don't understand what they did). I just wanted to advise that as Andy was talking about CNAMES.
The only time I have seen the forwarding of a second domain fail is if the DNS was not set so that the www CNAME record was set to @ and the @A record was set to the correct GoDaddy ip address. When you turn on forwarding the @ A record is automatically set. The www CNAME is not (for some unknown reason). And yes, you do not CNAME the domain to your primary or your SmugMug URL. Those will not work. Most likely GoDaddy corrected that and it started working.
With any domain host, masking must be turned off when forwarding as it does break things.
Do let us know on the help desk if you need assistance setting it up. We don't officially support multiple domains, but we do want to make sure that you get things correct.
I've missed a lot of things and been out of the loop for a while, but I've been using network solutions for my domain needs for a decade now. They're not the cheapest, but they are reliable.
I use Bluehost and HostGator for domains and hosting. Both work fine with smugmug but I've found HostGator to be much faster and have slightly more uptime.
Also, it's total nonsense to accept GoDaddys supposed reversal on SOPA. First, they helped craft the language of that bill. Second, they didn't just casually support it at first. They posted online (on two occassions) full throated support for it and condemnation of anyone who was against it. For them to claim a reversal of positions is ludicrous.
Forgive my Aussie dumbness then friends - how does one port FROM godaddy to say BlueHost/HostGator etc? A step by step idea would really help this old man!

Also check that your new host supports everything you need as well, like domain email if you use that.
Most domain hosts provide domain transfer instructions in their help / support sections. Look for that at your desired host.
Furthermore, during the transfer process, your domain will be *completely* unavailable for any visitors (including you) for a couple of days. Same goes for any domain email you may be using.
