Well after reading and reading and researching and generally driving myself totally nuts for the last few weeks over which tripod/head to get, I finally made the purchase. Originally I had decided to go with a feisol/photo clam combo, but after attempting to order from one of their distributors and having days and then weeks pass in between email that I sent and when they returned them, it occurred to me that I was probably making a mistake. So I bit the bullet and ordered the RRS combo mentioned in the title.

I am not quite sure if the feeling I now have is excitement or the onset of PTSD but I suppose there is no sense in having money in the bank on the day when I die, which as a side note will no doubt be considerably closer once I have told my wife about my "little" purchase. Anyway, just wanted to say thanks to all you people who take the time to write the reviews, answer our sometimes silly questions, and put up with all of us that do the things that we do. :bow:bow:bow

Almost to the end of the projected 3-6 weeks lead time.
The anticipation builds...
"Like anybody, I would like to live a long life. Longevity has its place. But I'm not concerned about that now... And he's allowed me to go up to the mountain. And I've looked over, and I've seen the promised land . . . So I'm happy tonight..."
All told after 10 minutes of playing with the new setup, I'm pretty impressed. The unit seems pretty solid in any reasonable configuration. Fully extended I have to stand on my tip toes to look through the viewfinder and I'm 6 '4". Time will indeed tell but thus far this is by far the most solid tripod I have ever seen. If I was to nitpick, my only criticism is that the lever you use to attach and release your camera from the head has a spring that squeaks when you use it. But like I said, only had it for ten minutes. More to come in the days ahead...
PS - you'll have to excuse the pics, I'm too eager to play with my new toy to spend any time on them atm.

D3s, D500, D5300, and way more glass than the wife knows about.
I have to admit that it does make me smile...
Now I just have to up my skill level to be worthy of it.
